More than 80 % o the UK land area is countryside. Some wild areas remain, but most is managed for agriculture, recreation, or nature conservation. Other large areas are located around historic and protected sites or are used for defence purposes. Agriculture is by far the greatest land use and is a crucial part of our heritage and our future.
Some 60% othe food we consume is still produced in the UK. Recently, farm support measures have seen a shift from production-based subsidies to agri-environmental support.
FWAG can help us all to reconnect with the countryside to make the links between high quality food and a high quality rural landscape and to enable all those with a passion for the countryside to work together to ensure that we make the right choices for the health of the countryside now and in the future.
FWAG, an independent Registered Charity - assists the people who manage the countryside by providing environmental management expertise coupled with an understanding of the farming business, so that food produced in the UK, our countryside and the native wildlife as we know it can be improved and protected for future generations to enjoy.
