with a champagne reception and birthday cake at the Royal Show

FWAG celebrated 40 successful years of advising farmers on environmental protection with a birthday cake and champagne reception held on 7 July during the Royal Show.

The Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, James Paice MP, spoke at the champagne reception and congratulated FWAG on reaching its 40th anniversary.    James Paice said ""The country is going to require farmers to produce increased amounts of food in the future, but this should present no conflict with caring for the environment.   The best way to persuade farmers to take action to conserve wildlife is to build up a rapport with them.  FWAG Farm Conservation Advisers have the respect of the farming community and this is the key to their success.    The prospects look good for FWAG for the next forty years and I wish them every success for the future".

In response FWAG's Chairman, Henry Lucas said "As well as producing high quality food for a growing population, farmers are also stewards of our rural landscape.    FWAG advice has never been in more demand and we look forward to another forty successful years helping the farming community increase farmland bio-diversity by protecting and conserving the natural resources we all depend upon".

Over 80 guests at the reception then joined FWAG headquarters staff in raising a toast to the charity.
