School Children to Learn About Gloucestershire Food, Farming and Wildlife

Year of Food and Farming

FULLY FUNDED EDUCATIONAL FARM VISITS FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

To mark "The Year Of Food And Farming", Gloucestershire Primary Schools are invited to register their interest to give pupils the opportunity to visit farms when we take groups of children from schools on educational farm visits in the countryside.

It is incredibly important that children learn at a young age about issues such as healthy food; food miles; climate change; and the importance of fresh healthy local and regional food products, which in many cases are produced by farms right on the schools' doorstep. We also think it is important that children understand that most of the UK countryside is managed by farmers. Farmers don't just produce food; they also look after and protect our native wildlife and habitats.

The educational material is made available by another charity, FACE (Farming And Countryside Education), and will be selected to suit the school's teaching programme, the relevant Key Stage of pupils schools wish to benefit, and the features and facilities available on the farm.

Our Farm Conservation Advisers have previous experience of working together with schools; they are CEVAS trained (Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme) and will conform to all the requirements under Health and Safety and Child Safety and Child Welfare regulations.

We invite schools to register their interest now  - (But no obligation to take part)
