Minister for Rural Affairs is in attendance

Some 120 farmers attended a Farm Walk at Sylfaen, Barmouth on the 15th September where the guest speaker was Elin Jones, the Minister for Rural Affairs. It was jointly organised by FWAG Cymru and the Farmers' Union of Wales (FUW).  Sylfaen is farmed by Robert Wyn Evans, Meirionnydd FUW chairman, and family. The farm combines a high standard of agricultural production with environmental care and diversification. It is a beef and sheep enterprise with a flock of 1000 Welsh Mountain sheep and a 70-strong suckler cow herd, a third of which are pedigree Welsh Black cattle.

Guests were not only able to admire the stock, infrastructure of the farm and environmental features but were also treated to stunning views across the Mawddach Estuary to the sea at Barmouth and inland to the summit of Cader Idris, on a glorious day. They were also able to sample home produced Sylfaen lamb, cooked to perfection with taste & tenderness which could not be rivalled, and all kindly provided by the Evans family.

One of the main topics discussed by the Minister was the proposed new agri-environment scheme, Glastir.
