FWAG in Northern Ireland offers an alternative approach to farmland management, tying together the importance of air, water and soil quality with a positive economic return.
As an independent advisory group, we assist in understanding bureaucracy and legislation and look to alternative methods of sustaining rural life.
Just as hedges and wetlands are being recognised by their absence, we see local produce and sustainable food systems as an imperative for both the farmers income and the environments outcome.
FWAG NI staff are all practising farmers and recognise the need for farmers to diversify where possible, and to target their single farm payment towards their farm infrastructure, rather than see it absorbed by propping up unrealistic prices for their produce.
