Last Thursday, a group of 26 people enjoyed a farm walk led by Silver Lapwing award winning farmer Stuart Taylor at his farm, Argoed, New Brighton near Mold. Stuart outlined his farm enterprise which is based on an organic dairy herd. The thought and care put into both agricultural production and conservation features was apparent to all - a balance the FWAG Cymru- National Grid Silver Lapwing Farm Conservation Competition seeks to highlight and award. The Taylors also keep on-farm energy consumption minimal and have solar panels installed.

The day was introduced by North Wales FWAG chairwoman, Ann Wrench, and after the walk, homemade cakes and tea were enjoyed in and around the well maintained traditional farm buildings. Ivor Beech, FWAG Cymru Vice Chairman proposed the vote of thanks before all was dismantled in time for the Taylors to get on with the milking.

The FWAG Cymru- National Grid Silver Lapwing Farm Conservation Competition for 2009 is now open , but the closing date is the end of September. Entry forms are available from the FWAG Cymru office at Dolgellau - 01341 421456 and on-line at http://www.fwag.org.uk/.
